Recently I completed the
AIRS Searchlab 2008 course and one of the elements that they discuss is "Flipsearch", finding links to a particular domain.
The facilitator (who was extremely good) let us know that Flipsearches can only be completed in Yahoo! or Exalead with the "linkdomain:" or "link:" commands respectively. She also mentioned that it is completely impossible to perform a flip search through Google, so don't bother trying.
Being a bit of a bull I saw a red rag.
Although it is correct that there is no direct command that will allow you to discover links to a particular domain through Google I thought that there should be a way using a combination of the commands which are available.
The "inanchor:" command combined with the "inurl:" command allows us to access the two areas that are referenced by "link:" or "linkdomain:"
Given that it is simply a matter of creating a rule and removing the original site:
"inanchor:google.com -inurl:google.com"
Unfortunately this is not a perfect replacement for the "link:" command as "inanchor:" references the text within the anchor tags -
google.com - rather than the actual link itself - google.com.
It does, however, open a huge amount of results that are not normally available through Google.
It also works in Live...
Hopefully it will prove useful in your searches.
