SourceCon challenge

By the way, the 2008 SourceCon challenge should start some time tonight.

It would be brilliant to see an Aussie take one of the prizes. Hopefully they'll stand by their promise to fly the winners over to the conference...

On the shoulders of giants

I caught up with an old family friend today who is in the recruiting space, although for a completely unrelated industry. During our conversation she mentioned some of the roles she is actively looking for. After I hung up I sent her a link to a search I'd run based on one of the criteria she'd mentioned. This simple search had brought back 84 suspects she hadn't had previously.

It was at this point that I realised just how lucky I am to have received the training that has brought me to my curr… Continue

Flipping Google

Recently I completed the AIRS Searchlab 2008 course and one of the elements that they discuss is "Flipsearch", finding links to a particular domain.

The facilitator (who was extremely good) let us know that Flipsearches can only be completed in Yahoo! or Exalead with the "linkdomain:" or "link:" commands respectively. She also mentioned that it is completely impossible to perform a flip search through Google, so don't bother trying.
Being a… Continue

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the welcome :-)

I am so happy that Andrea opened up such a great group/ network and the response it's been getting. I can't wait to come along to the next network meeting later on this month.

Looking forward to meeting yourself and others in the group soon.

Cheers

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the welcome and apologies for my tardy response.

The main difference for me with the change in role and focus in terms of research has been a shift away from a heavy reliance upon published information or 'secondary research' to a more self-sufficient model of conducting 'primary research' - using a combination of the web, internal CRM systems, company IP and most importantly your networks to identify contacts and candidates in the marketplace. You really have to draw upon your resources and be more creative and proactive in your approach. In addition, the opportunity to speak to people who are active in the industry in which we recruit makes the whole process so much more dynamic and interesting.

The change has been challenging, yet rewarding - hey I'm still learning - but it's why having a network of like-minded souls who share their knowledge is so important - especially when you're fairly 'new' to the field.

Looking forward to meeting yourself and others in the group soon.

Cheers
Nicole
